Our brain is the most important part of our body. However, most of the time we fail to take proper care of this part. One of the main reasons of this organ getting least attention is that there are lot of misconceptions that people have about mental health!
Here are some of the biggest misconceptions that people have about the mental health!
1. f you have depression you are sad all the time.
This isn’t true, because if you are depressed, you have a lot of feelings that aren’t great in the first place. A lot of people have the feeling of not belonging. Doing something fun for others is boring to you. You go deeper in every time and the people experiencing it have a hard time
2. If you just find the right pill, you can be normal again
There’s no magic pill. This is a lifelong illness that requires lifelong treatment, usually a combination of therapy and medication
3. Anxiety and paranoia are all in your head
Seriously, people actually believe this shit. you can make it go away, but it’s a long and hard process, not something that happens with the snap of your fingers. Same goes for depression and other various ways of thinking.
4. If you have social anxiety, it does NOT help to force yourself to be around people
Social anxiety is nothing you should cure by forcing you to do stuff that triggers your anxiety, but rather try to find a possible source for it and work on dealing with it in a safe way.
5. You have to be extremely underweight to have an eating disorder.
If you are underweight, you are magically cured if you gain enough weight back and you will never feel anxious around food again.
6. You need a reason to be depressed.
This isn’t the case. It’s a chemical imbalance in the brain and you can’t decide whether you get it or not.
